Why Do Video Game Movies Suck?

So I love video games, but when ever a film adaptation of one comes out, I can never be less excited. Throughout the years, Hollywood's attempts at making a movie out of a videogame has resulted in failure, but why? Well MatPat at The Game Theorists seems to have figured it out:

The Hollywood Movie Trailer

Movie trailers have always been a great way for studios to generate hype for their upcoming movies, but the people over at Red Letter Media have noticed a reoccurring trend with all of the recent trailers. It seems like the Hollywood trailer has more of a formula than the movies themselves! What do you think?

Visual Comedy Lessons from Edgar Wright

Edgar Wright is a comedy genius when it comes to using visual comedy. Here is a video from Tony Zhou that illustrates not only how Edgar Wright's film making excels in using camera and motion to get a laugh, but also how Hollywood has failed in popular comedy movies.

Dragoon Films Recommendations: I Saw The Devil

This South Korean revenge film is by far he best I've seen from the genre. It's about a man whose wife is brutally murdered and he goes the extra mile to get back at her killer. This emotionally driven film has some very intense scenes and disturbing imagery that will stay with you for a long time. Definitely a must watch... If you can handle it!

Dragoon Film Recommendations: Mystery Team

This is a very funny independent film made by Derrick Comedy starring Donald Glover and Aubrey Plaza. It is about three eighteen year old kids who have trouble growing up, but they try to solve a murder in their neighborhood to prove that they are adults. This is a little known movie that I think deserves to be seen by all crude comedy fans.

Dragoon Films Recommendations - The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters

This is a fantastic documentary that follows middle school science teacher, Steve Weibe, as he attempts to break the world record in Donkey Kong against Billy Mitchell. I feel like this film came across the perfect protagonist and antagonist totally by accident. It's really hard not to root for Steve as he works towards his goal, he's just such a likable person that I had to opportunity to meet at Denver Comic Con one year:

This is by far one of the most entertaining documentaries I have ever seen! A definite must watch!

Dragoon Film Recommendations: Hot Fuzz

I don't think I have ever laughed harder in any movie than I did in Hot Fuzz. There are so many small moments among the fast paced editing that makes repeat viewings a lot of fun and almost necessary. From Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg (behind Shaun of the Dead and The Worlds End) This is a must see!

Neil Gaiman Speech for Anyone Pursuing The Arts

I came across this Commencement speech made by Neil Gaiman at The University of Arts in 2012. As someone who is in to film and would like to pursue it as a career, I found this speech very inspirational. I think for anyone looking to make a living out of any form of art this is a must watch!

Dragoon Film Recommendations: Requiem for a Dream

Requiem for a Dream is one of those few films that take brilliant writing, directing, editing, music, and cinematography and combines them in a way that digs deep into your emotions for an experience you'll never forget. I will not only say this is my favorite film by Darren Aronofsky, but it is one of my favorite films of all time! (Don't do drugs)

Dragoon Film Recomendations: No Country For Old Men

I am a huge fan of the Coen Brothers, and with No Country For Old Men they've made one of the most intense thrillers I have ever seen! The antagonist of this movie will give you nightmares with his emotionless speech and disregard for human life. Javier Bardem certainly deserved his Oscar for his performance in this movie. Check it out!
