Why Do Video Game Movies Suck?

So I love video games, but when ever a film adaptation of one comes out, I can never be less excited. Throughout the years, Hollywood's attempts at making a movie out of a videogame has resulted in failure, but why? Well MatPat at The Game Theorists seems to have figured it out:

This is a fantastic documentary that follows middle school science teacher, Steve Weibe, as he attempts to break the world record in Donkey Kong against Billy Mitchell. I feel like this film came across the perfect protagonist and antagonist totally by accident. It's really hard not to root for Steve as he works towards his goal, he's just such a likable person that I had to opportunity to meet at Denver Comic Con one year:

This is by far one of the most entertaining documentaries I have ever seen! A definite must watch!

Film Making Tips Day 16: Source Filmmaker

Sometimes as a filmmaker, I lack actors. Though in this case I generally use animals, but another great solution would be to use animation. But if you are anything like me, you don’t have much of a talent for this. That’s where Source filmmaker comes in!

You don’t have to know anything about animation, you just play video games and record it. The possibilities are endless when making a movie on this software, and the best part is it’s free!
